EA Mental Health and Wellbeing with Briony Baxter
At ISE Partners we were delighted to host our latest roundtable breakfast meeting on the topic of EA Mental Health and Wellbeing. We had a thought provoking talk by Briony Baxter, followed by a practical and constructive discussion on how to implement support structures in the work environment.
With over 14 years of experience as an EA, Briony has worked at prominent firms like Heathrow Airport Ltd, PwC, and is currently supporting a global Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company. In addition to her EA role, Briony co-leads McKinsey’s affinity group for colleagues who identify with disabilities, mental health challenges, neurodiversity, and chronic health conditions. Driven by her passion and advocacy for mental health, she also founded and leads the Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative for McKinsey’s London EAs, championing this critical issue.
In this session, we discussed:
- Briony’s personal experiences with mental health in the workplace
- Key statistics and challenges on mental health among EAs
- Practical strategies that companies, both large and small, can implement in the workplace
Some very interesting ideas were shared by our clients including:
- Regular EA group breakfast/lunch meetings
- Creating an EA Employee Resources Group
- Buddy system for EAs
- Regular meditation sessions
- Monthly 1:1 meetings with Manager
Encouraging regular discussion and open communication around the demands of the Assistant role thereby creating a supportive environment, was the key takeaway.
